He Knows

Acts 12

Introduction - When difficulty comes to our lives, one thing is for certain:  God knows.  In our text today, we are reminded of the activity of God even in the most troubling of circumstances.  Through the example of Peter, we are reminded that God knows exactly where we are and what we need.

1 Peter 3:12

The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil

I.                   God knows our trials .vs. 1-4

·         The church harassed. Vs. 1

·         James martyred. Vs. 2

·         Peter imprisoned. Vs. 3-4

 

II.                God hears our prayers. Vs. 5-17

·         The church interceding. Vs.5

 Note – the power of a praying church.

·         The Lord intervening. Vs. 6-17

 Note - the hand of the Lord is obvious in Peter’s example.

1.      His ability to sleep. vs. 6

2.      His obedience. Vs.7-9

3.      His deliverance Vs. 10-12

4.      His appearance. Vs. 13-17

 

III.             God knows our enemies. Vs.18-24

·         The foolishness of pride. Vs. 18-22

 Psalm 101:4-6 

 4 I will reject perverse ideas
      and stay away from every evil.
 
5 I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.
      I will not endure conceit and pride.

 6 I will search for faithful people
      to be my companions.
   Only those who are above reproach
      will be allowed to serve me.

·         The elimination of the proud. Vs. 23-24

 Proverbs 16:18-19

18Pride goes before destruction
  and haghtiness before a fall.

19Better to live humbly with the poor
  than to share plunder with the proud.
